Some of the Questions We Receive Most Frequently.
And the answers, too, of course.
A natural soap from vegetable-based ingredients which originated in Syria and reached the region of Castilla in Spain. Thus, the name Castile soap was born. Kirk’s soaps contain 100% coconut oil as the main ingredient. Coconut oil is an excellent vegetable-based oil due to its healthy fats, which result in a creamy lather and extra soft skin.
Coconut oil has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties – and, as laid out by the CDC, 20 seconds of proper washing is just as effective!
For Kirk’s liquids and our Aloe Bar Soap, our fragrances are blends of essential oils and natural scent materials. Our Original Fresh Scent Bar is a legacy scent which is a combination of synthetic fragrance and essential oils from the pine and citrus family. The gluten-free, synthetic ingredients do not contain Phthalates, Parabens, EDTA or animal by-products. All Kirk’s products are tested by a dermatologist and deemed hypoallergenic, non-irritating, and safe for sensitive skin.
Yes! All surfactants used in Kirk’s are biodegradable and safe for septic systems. Meaning all surfactants (sudsing/cleaning agents) are broken down into simpler compounds by natural biological action helping to eliminate sudsing and foaming problems in lakes and streams.

We note on each Kirk’s bar soap a 5-year shelf life. However, Kirk’s bar actually has an unlimited shelf life. The bar is still usable even if it has discolored after a very long storage period. There will just be a slight color and scent degradation.
The liquid products have a shelf life of 3 years.
There is no soy in any of our products.
Kirk’s soap contains no free lye or lye residues in the final product, but lye is used to convert coconut oil into soap. All traces of residual lye are fully neutralized in our soap-making process.
